Surgery Education Leadership Update

W. John Sharp, MD, Professor and Director of the Division of Vascular Surgery has added the position of Vice Chair for Education, Department of Surgery, to his already impressive list of titles. Dr. Sharp has been a member of the Department of Surgery Vascular Faculty for over 20 years, and for most of that time has held a leadership role in the General Surgery Residency and Education programs. A glance at Dr. Sharp’s curriculum vitae confirms his long-standing dedication to, and recognition for accomplishments within, all aspects of education.
Dr. Muneera Kapadia has assumed the role of Associate Program Director for the Surgery Residency Program. Dr. Kapadia is a Colorectal Surgeon in the Division of Gastrointestinal, Minimally-Invasive and Bariatric Surgery and is currently working on her Masters in Medical Education through the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine.
Dr. Carlos Pelaez has assumed the role of Medical Student Director for the Medical Student Clerkship and M4 Advanced Electives. Dr. Pelaez is a Trauma Surgeon in the Division of Acute Care Surgery and is excited to begin a career in Surgical Education.
