Radiation Sciences Programs

  • Transfer Credits

The prerequisite, general, and advanced university courses are courses that may transfer from other academic institutions. Once admitted to UI, you will receive a degree audit that lists which courses transferred and which courses remain unsatisfied. To assess transfer courses and to view a degree audit example, access the UI "Transfer Course Equivalency Guide" and “I-Chart Transfer Planning Resource”. Transfer courses that do not fulfill the specific degree requirements may count as elective credits. See attached for directions. For questions call the UI Office of Admissions at 319-335-3847.

    Community College Course Equivalency Guidelines:

Previously admitted University of Iowa degree students can request a ‘What If’ degree audit through the Student Records tab on ISIS. Scroll to the bottom of the dropdown menu and select the Carver College of Medicine (CCOM) Radiation Sciences requirements.

    • Admit to the CCOM Radiation Sciences major.
    • Complete the final consecutive 30sh at Iowa.

The Radiologic Technology (RT) program may be completed at another institution. An admitted radiation sciences degree seeking student is issued 60 semester hours of credit with proof of passing the national ARRT boards. A modality program must be completed at the University of Iowa.

Meeting the Residency Requirement for the major

Residency begins once a student is admitted to the Radiation Sciences major in the CCOM.
All students need to meet one of three residency options:

    • Option 1: At least 90 sh must be completed in the CCOM.
    • Option 2: 45 hours of the final 60 sh must be completed in the CCOM.
    • Option 3: The final consecutive 30 sh must be completed in the CCOM.

Most common results of the options above for RT transfer students:

    • Option 1: Usually is not an option.
    • Option 2: Once admitted, a student needs to complete a minimum of 45 sh at UI and a maximum of 15 sh at another institution.
    • Option 3: Once admitted, a student needs to complete a minimum of and the final 30 sh consecutively at UI. This is the most common option. Complete all necessary transfer courses prior to admitting to UI.
