Common questions about Cord Blood donation

Q. What will it cost me to be in this study?

Ans: It will not cost you anything. We are also unable to compensate you for your decision to donate cord blood.

Q. What will the cord blood be used for?

Ans: The donated cord blood will solely be used for research purposes. There are many physicians and scientists who use cells in the cord blood for their research. The cord blood will never be used for clinical use or given to another patient (eg. transfusion).

Q. Will my decision to donate change my delivery experience?

Ans: No. Cord blood donation will not interfere with your delivery. It will not prolong or hasten your delivery times.

Q. Can I donate if I am having a Caesarean section?

Ans: Yes you can. In case of Caesarean section the cord blood is collected after delivery of your baby.

Q. Can I donate if I'm having twins?

Ans: Yes. We are still able to collect cord blood from the cord and placenta of each of the babies..

Q. What about my privacy and that of my child after donation?

Ans: Your health information will be kept completely confidential. Your donated sample will be only identified by a unique identifier assigned to you when you decide to enroll in the study.

Q. Will my cord blood be used for cloning?

Ans: No. The blood will not be used for cloning purposes.
