This test is available to symptomatic individuals only. Predictive testing is not offered because this variant demonstrates reduced penetrance. The LRRK2 G2019S variant is found in approximately 6% of families demonstrating autosomal dominant inheritance of PD and in approximately 1% of sporadic cases. | ||
Test Limitations: |
Testing on smaller blood volumes than those requested will be attempted. However, in some cases, small blood volumes may compromise the ability to perform testing. | ||
Methodology: |
Polymerase Chain Reaction: Amplification refractory mutation system (ARMS). | ||
Sample Processing: |
Lavender tube is sent as whole blood, no processing necessary. | ||
Sample Storage: |
Room temperature for up to 24 hours, then refrigerate the whole blood if it is necessary to be held overnight, or weekends, or holidays. | ||
Transport Instructions: |
DO NOT FREEZE, protect specimen by wrapping in bubble-wrap or toweling. Recommend express mail or equivalent if not on courier service. Place specimen into styrofoam container, seal container. | ||
