Adenovirus Antibody, IgG
Negative: 0.89 IV or less
No significant level of adenovirus IgG antibody detected.
Equivocal: 0.90 - 1.10 IV
Questionable presence of adenovirus IgG antibody detected.
Repeat testing in 10-14 days may be helpful.

IgG antibodies to adenovirus detected, which may suggest current
or past infection.

Questionable presence of adenovirus IgM antibody detected.
Repeat testing in 10-14 days may be helpful.

IgM antibodies to adenovirus detected, which may suggest current
or recent infection. | ||
Test Limitations: |
Adenoviruses are DNA viruses responsible for 4-5 percent of all respiratory illnesses. There are 41 known serotypes with diverse clinical manifestations, ranging from acute pharyngoconjunctival fever and acute respiratory outbreaks to epidemic keratoconjunctivitis and intestinal tract infections. Because of the varied serotypes, adenoviruses cause infections year-round. Although adenovirus infections are rarely fatal, about 50 percent of infants and young children have prolonged intermittent disease and fatal adenovirus infections can occur in infants and immunocompromised adults. Most cases are diagnosed on clinical grounds alone. Viral culture can be used in selected clinical settings. Serologic testing usually relies upon the demonstration of antibodies to group-specific antigens. Individual serotype specificity is seldom required. | ||
