Donor Memorial & Healing Garden Annual Dedication

Garden Dedication

For the eighth consecutive year, the Iowa Lions Eye Bank will be hosting the Annual Spring Dedication Ceremony on Thursday, May 22nd at 3pm. Held within the magnificent Iowa Lions Donor Memorial & Healing Garden, located outside the main entrance to UIHC, this unique ceremony honors and exemplifies eye, organ and tissue donors and recipients, as well as those who support the work of donation and transplantation.

Guest speakers include a grateful cornea recipient and the mother of her cornea donor, a 5-year-old boy who died in a tragic accident. The recipient and donor's mother have corresponded with each other for several years and then met for the first time last summer. They will share their personal journey and provide testimonials to the life-changing outcomes of donation and transplantation. Several commemorative pavers within the walkway of the memorial will be dedicated, along with the 4th Donor Family Quilt of Memories. Dr. Ken Goins will serve as Master of Ceremonies for this inspirational and memorable event.

Refreshments will be served following the ceremony. Ophthalmology faculty and staff are invited and encouraged to attend.
