Helping our community: Ophthalmology partners with Habitat for Humanity
Thursday, December 05, 2013
The University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences partnered with Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity to build a new home for a local family. The “Hawk-Eye Build” project kicked off in May with a groundbreaking ceremony followed by several “build days” and a dedication ceremony in October.
Faculty and staff donated funds for building supplies and provided hundreds of volunteer hours helping construct the home. It represents the first time a UI Hospitals and Clinics department has sponsored and participated in a Habit building project.
The couple who moved into the recently completed home have three children. They were very excited and look forward to having a new, safer home of their own.
