Identifying early signs of eye disease in veterans

A UI researcher will study the use retinal vessel measurements to predict and identify eye disease in veterans.
Michael D. Abramoff, MD, PhD, will analyze color fundus photographs for early biomarkers showing future development of diabetic retinopathy and hypertension in veterans with diabetes.
The two-year research project, funded by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Research and Development, will be conducted by the Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Visual Loss at the Iowa City VA Medical Center.
