2013 International Symposium of University of Iowa Cardiovascular Research Center: A Recap

University of Iowa Cardiovascular Research Center (CVC) researchers, board members and industry representatives gathered for two days in late October to explore ways they could work more closely together to translate promising ideas in our labs into medicines, devices and diagnostics that help patients.
Given recent NIH funding cuts and reductions in government support for research, the CVC’s co-directors Drs. Mark Anderson and Barry London planned the event, as part of a larger strategic initiative, to bring researchers together to discuss the future of academic research and where the work of CVC researchers fits into the landscape. Hence the CVC’s first International Symposium, "Academic Research at a Crossroads," held in the campus medical complex Oct. 24-25.
