    Marin Schweizer received the Best Clinical/Translational Poster Award at the 2015 Department of Internal Medicine Research Day for her position on “A Multicenter Intervention to Reduce Surgical Site Infections among Patients Undergoing Cardiac Operations and Total Joint Arthroplasty (STOP SSI Study)”. Congratulations Marin!

    Hilary Mosher Receives VA Recognition for Work on Opioid Use

    Please join us in congratulating Paula Forest, ARNP and Amy Leitch, ARNP for being named a 100 Great Iowa Nurse. The 100 Great Iowa Nurses award recognizes nurses for meaningful contributions to patients and colleagues. Paula and Amy join 6 other nurses from UIHC who received this honor.     Aparna Kamath, MD and Alexis Wickersham, MD presented their poster, “Smartphones in the Improvement of Inter-professional Communication”, at this year’s Society of Hospital Medicine National Meeting in National Harbor, MD.

    2015 Society of General Internal Medicine National Meeting

    The Division of General Internal Medicine will be well represented at this year’s SGIM National Meeting in Toronto.

    • Krista Johnson, Aparna Kamath, Chaitanya Are, Justin Smock, Wendy Fiordellisi, Beth Lesh, Jen Wittman, Marcia Gingerich, and Emily Zirkelbach will present their workshop “Simulation for Multidisciplinary Teamwork and Communication” in the Quality of Care/Patient Safety workshop session.
    • Michele Fang will present “Write It for FORUM! Experience + Collaboration = Career Development!” during the Personal/Professional Development workshop session.
    • Heather Reisinger and Samantha Solimeo, in conjunction with several of their VA colleagues, will present “Qualitative Methods in Implementation Research: Examples from the VA” in the Research Methods workshop session.
    • David Katz, Ethan Kuperman, Rich Hoffman, Wendy Fiordellisi, Krista Johnson, and Chris Goerdt also had posters accepted for presentation.

    Collegiate Teaching Award
    Joe Szot, MD received the Collegiate Teaching Award from the Carver College of Medicine. The College of Medicine grants this award to faculty members who are exceptional teachers in their area of specialty. Please join us in congratulating Joe on his achievement.

    M3 Outpatient Clerkship Director

    Katie White, MD has been named the M3 Clerkship Director for the Department of Internal Medicine effective February 1, 2015. In addition to her new role, Dr. White will continue to providing patient care in our IRL Internal Medicine Clinic as well as the VA Continuity of Care Clinic. Congratulations to Katie on her new role!
