Planning a CME Activity

CME Activities Employing Enduring Materials

Enduring CME materials are printed, recorded, or computer-assisted instructional materials that may be used over time and at various locations. Examples of such materials for independent physician learning include programmed texts, audiotapes, videotapes, and computer-assisted instructional activities that are used alone or in combination with written materials. Books or journals and manuals, unless specifically designated for category 1; are not classified as enduring materials.

Some activities, for example, consist of educational modules, each of which pertains to a single topic area, but are self-contained with regard to educational content and questions related to that content.

Persons and groups interested in pursuing CME enduring material will be sent a copy of a document titled Category 1 CME Employing Enduring Materials (Including CME delivered Via the Internet). The document has been prepared by the UI Carver College of Medicine’s CME Division and is intended as a resource guide. Requirements for developing and offering this type of activity are discussed in detail.
