Visiting physicians who participate in a traineeship may join in rounds, see outpatients, participate in departmental conferences, and discuss issues and concerns with faculty. Physicians interested in completing a traineeship should first contact the appropriate clinical department to determine whether resources are available to support this type of training. If the traineeship has been approved by the Department Chair, a rigorous credentialing process is required. For additional information, please call Deb Strabala in the credentialing office. Deb may be reached by phone at 319-384-9292. When the trainee's credentialing is complete, the host department may contact the CME office at 319/335-8597 to determine the number of AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM the trainee can earn. Traineeships may also be completed without CME credit if desired.
The College currently offers two types of traineeships:
Costs for both types of traineeship will be determined by the clinical departments based on the number of faculty involved and the duration and complexity of the traineeship. The trainee should ask about the cost before committing to the training. (Note: If the Department or trainee wishes to have the activity designated an AMA PRA Category 1 educational experience, that Department will be charged $400 by the CME Division plus $8 per participant for processing credit.)
