Estimated Tuition and Other CLS Program Expenses

UI Degree-Seeking Students Students enrolled in the degree-seeking option receiving semester-hour credit towards a baccalaureate degree from the University of Iowa pay the following charges. Amounts are accurate for the 2008-2009 academic year and are subject to change.

Additional Costs

1. Hepatitis Vaccine - All CLS students must provide written documentation of completion of the second Hepatitis B immunization dose before beginning phlebotomy training or enrolling in CLS Program courses. The vaccine is available through the Student Health Service at a cost of ~$100. Alternatively, a student may receive the vaccine from any other health care facility of his or her choice. As of 2005 all CLS students are required to obtain a Hepatitis B titer upon completion of the immunization series. The titer is available through the Student health Service at a cost of ~$80.


2. Professional Society Dues - Students are strongly encouraged to join the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Sciences and the state branch Iowa Association of Clinical Laboratory Sciences. Student membership dues, and registration fees to attend the Iowa state meeting, amount to approximately $50.


3. Certification Exam Fees - Upon completion of the Program, students are eligible to take national certification exams given by the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the National Credentialing Agency for Clinical Laboratory Personnel. Students are strongly encouraged to register and sit for both exams. Current registration fees are $175 for the ASCP exam and $145 for the NCA exam.

Housing

Students must make their own arrangements for housing in Iowa City. On-campus housing at the University of Iowa is available during the fall and spring semesters in University Residence Halls.  Information can be obtained through the Housing Assignment Office, Residence Services, Burge Hall, The University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA 52242-1298.
