    Dr. Ryan is an Affiliate Faculty in the Program in Bioethics and Humanities and Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. She received her M.D. from Washington University School of Medicine and an MA in Bioethics from the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Ryan completed both her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and her fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Iowa, where she has been since 1999. Dr. Ryan practices Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility, Gynecologic Ultrasound and Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, acts as Vice-Chair of the Ethics Subcommittee, and serves as a consultant on the hospital's Ethics Consult Service. She is on the admissions committee of the Humanities Distinction Track at the College of Medicine and mentors medical students on this track as well as the Research Distinction Track.

    Dr. Ryan is a Women's Reproductive Health Research Scholar whose research interests include reproductive bioethics education, fairness in infertility care access, understanding emerging reproductive technologies, and improving safe outcomes of infertility care. She has also investigated reproductive health and infertility in female veterans and will soon be splitting her clinical and research efforts between the Iowa City VA and the University of Iowa. Along with her clinical research publications, Dr. Ryan has published on the ethical issues involved in restricting embryo transfer practices, in preserving fertility in children with cancer, and in establishing guidelines for treating obese women with infertility. Dr. Ryan is currently serving on the Committee on Ethics of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).
